The last thing the suburban loser says to his sons when he drops them off at school every morning is to have a good day and be nice to people. Some days he says it while he still has their attention as he pulls alongside the curb, other days he shouts it toward them as they grab their backpacks and run out the door, eager to meet their friends or to simply leave the suburban loser behind. But no matter what, he always says it. It might be the sort of phrase they pass on to their children or maybe mention to their friends when they sit around bonfires reminiscing about their families. My father was great, they'll say about the suburban loser. He always told us to have a good day and be nice to people. Years later, after the suburban loser's eldest son gets suspended for writing a note that called his teacher a fat bitch who should die, the suburban loser picks him up from the principal's office and asks his eldest son in a dismayed voice why he didn’t remember what he always told them. He always told them to have a good day and be nice to people, so why didn't he?
